How did I get here? (You’re probably wondering how I got here uh? – Part 2)

Here I am, sitting in the parking lot after a long call, dreading the drive back home, the thought of being caught up in the morning rush & honestly just praying that I can stay awake throughout the trip.

BARADISE: Obstetrics & Gynaecology

I’ve been wanting to start a new series of posts for awhile now, titled Baradise. These will be short recollection of various rotations I’ve completed with the greater focus being on the general overview of the rotation rather than personal reflection. As stated in Finally, I started my internship and ultimately my medical career with Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

As I reach the end of my first year of internship, I can’t help but look back at everything that has happened since. How much my life has changed, how much the world and I suppose how much I’ve changed.

Being Dr Leyka

Someone once asked me what was it like “Being Dr Leyka?” At the time I didn’t quite have an answer but after spending some time thinking about it, it came to me. Being Dr Leyka is a lot of things; it’s exciting, it’s fun, its fulfilling but it’s also extremely exhausting, scary, challenging and frustrating. It is the best and the worst thing concurrently. Everyday I wake up and I have to pinch myself because wow I actually get to do this for a living.

You’re probably wondering how I got here uh?

Yeah, me too. I asked myself this question at 2 AM on a random Wednesday morning, as I stood in the middle of the labour ward nursery surrounded by sick new borns babies, nursing staff & beeping machines.

The Unemployed Doctor

19 months ago my wildest dream came true. A dream 21 years in the making; after years and years of hard work, sacrifice, of occupying spaces and achieving accolades that a person with my background was never meant to achieve. It eventually happened, FINALLY, I became Dr Yannick Leyka.
